Newcastle Eagles this week took their winning streak to five with victories over Leicester Riders, Plymouth Raiders and Everton Tigers.
The Eagles’ week began with a convincing 99-80 win over the Riders on Saturday, point guard Richard Midgley top-scored for the in-form side with 28 points. Midgley netted 22 points in a 76-69 victory over the Raiders the following night. On Tuesday the Great Britain star scored 15 in just 20 minutes as the Eagles thrashed the Tigers 104-79 but it was the Eagles’ captain Andrew Bridge who stole the show with 24 points to help the Eagles join Sheffield Sharks at the top of the table.
The Sharks recorded an 87-83 win over Milton Keynes Lions on Friday. Ray McKeithan (30) and Justice Graham (27) dominated the scoring as the Sharks got their fifth victory of the season.
In Friday’s other game, London Capitals managed to beat the Tigers in a low-scoring affair. The Capitals point guard Wes Miller led all scorers with 23 points in the 69-58 win.
Scottish Rocks rebounded from last week’s thrilling double overtime loss to the Eagles by thrashing Worcester Wolves 112-71 on Saturday with Chris Hampton netting 26. The following night not even 30 points and 11 assists from Rocks’ guard Rob Yanders could prevent the Lions from recording a 97-94 victory over the Rocks.
In Sunday’s other game Danny Gilbert scored 26 points to help Guildford Heat beat Chester Jets 98-89. The Jets had beaten Birmingham Panthers the previous night 89-76 with Jayson Obazuaye leading all scorers and Shawn Myers contributing 23 points and 14 rebounds.
