Richard Midgley again shone as Newcastle Eagles won their sixth game on the trot with a 72-61 victory over their closest rivals Sheffield Sharks on Friday. The point guard who has been outstanding off the bench this season notched 25 points in the win.

 

Elsewhere on Friday, James Hamilton scored 22 points to help Cheshire Jets beat Milton Keynes Lions 85-82 and Everton Tigers recorded their first BBL win as GB international Chris Haslam nailed 3/3 three pointers on his way to 25 points. The Tigers surprisingly beat Guildford Heat 91-80.

 

The Heat returned to winning ways the on Sunday with Mike Martin’s 25 points leading all scorers in a 95-79 win over the Lions. Sunday also saw Birmingham Panthers get their first win of the season as London born guard Daniel Sandell lit it up for 38 points, including 12/14 from two point range and 4/7 from beyond the arc. The Panthers beat Worcester Wolves 98-86 despite Anthony Paez’s 32 points for the Wolves.

 

The Tigers failed to make it two wins in a row on Sunday as Rob Yanders notched 14 points and 12 assists and Maurice Hampton scored 22 points to help Scottish Rocks to an 80-74 victory. The Jets were led by 28 points from the veteran Shawn Myers in an 89-67 win over London Capitals.

 

The Capitals also lost the previous night, suffering an 80-63 defeat to Plymouth Raiders as Drew Lasker scored 27 for the Raiders. The Wolves managed their first two points beating Leicester Riders 92-85, Anthony Paez knocking down 36 points and Shaun Durant getting 15 points and 16 rebounds.

 

After beating the Sharks, the Eagles are now two points clear at the top of the BBL, they face the Jets tomorrow.
