Worcester Wolves sacked two players this week after an atrocious start to the season. The Wolves are bottom of the BBL having won just one of their seven games and according to BBC Sport today, Markus Hallgrimson and Dave Mallon have been released.

The Wolves were already 1-4 before the beginning of the week and despite 32 points for Anthony Paez, who scored more than 30 twice the previous week, the Wolves lost 86-82 to Milton Keynes Lions on Saturday. The following night Mallon scored just two points and Hallgrimson did not play as the Wolves went down 89-61 to a London Capitals side inspired by Wes Miller’s five three-pointers.

Cheshire Jets forward Shawn Myers has been awarded BBL Player of the Month for October after putting up 22.8PPG and 14.4rpg and helping his side to a 4-2 record during the month. Despite 24 points and 12 rebounds from Myers, the Jets lost to top of the table Newcastle Eagles 81-78 on Friday.

In Friday’s other game, Guildford Heat kept pressure on the table-toppers with a 96-91 win over the Capitals, Daniel Gilbert hit 26 points in the game. The Heat play in Bosnia on Tuesday for their first ULEB Cup match.

6ft 8in centre Terrance Durham collected 17 rebounds and scored 14 points to help Plymouth Raiders to a 74-69 win over the Rocks on Saturday and in Saturday’s other game 13 rebounds and three blocked shots from Leicester Riders’ Terrance Woodyard knocked Birmingham Panthers out of the BBL Cup winning 79-73.

In the weekend’s final match 21 points and six assists from Raiders point guard Anthony Martin [above] was not enough as Plymouth went down 81-78 to the Lions on Sunday.
