The trade of Zach Randolph from the New York Knicks to the Los Angeles Clippers was finally completed yesterday. As expected the Knicks cleared more cap room for LeBron and co. in 2010 by trading away Zach Randolph, his fat contract and Mardy Collins to the Clippers for Tim Thomas and Cuttino Mobley.
The deal had been put in doubt after worries by the Knicks about Mobley's heart condition but team president Donnie Walsh approved the deal yesterday.
Last week the Knicks cleared further cap room by sending Jamal Crawford to the Golden State Warriors in a deal that saw Al Harrington going the other way.
The motivation for the Knicks would appear to be giving themselves an option to bring in a big name in the future. With the two trades the Knicks have cleared more than $27m in salary-cap space for 2010 when LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Amare Stoudemire, Chris Bosh and Joe Johnson hit free agency.
