The Milwaukee Bucks will trade Bobby Simmons and Yi Jianlian to the New Jersey Nets for Richard Jefferson according to SI.com.
The deal which was agreed in principle will clear further cap room for the Nets to make a run at LeBron James or some of his fellow class of 2003 draft mates in the summer of 2010.
For the Bucks the attraction is obvious. They give up Yi, who never really wanted to be in Milwaukee, and Simmons, who has been in the treatment room for longer than anyone can remember. In return they get in Jefferson who is one of the league’s top 10 scorers, coming off his best ever season.
It will be interesting though to see if Jefferson can co-exist with All Star Michael Redd, who is also one of the league’s top ten scorers. Having them on the same team will mean less shots for both of them.
Jefferson is also used to having many of his points put on a plate by Jason Kidd. Bucks PG Mo Williams is not Kidd. He is not even in the Kidd mould as he likes to shoot first and one wonders if the man, who interviewed himself, can get Redd and Jefferson on the ball enough.
New Bucks coach Scott Skiles will have to sort that out but on paper it looks good for Milwaukee as well as the cap clearing Nets.
