Britain’s Pops Mensah-Bonsu scored a team high 21 points and pulled down eight boards for the Timberwolves in their final summer league game last night. The Wolves cruised to a 111-91 victory over the Knicks and the impressive performance adds to questions about the GB international’s future.
ESPN’s Mark Stein believes an offer of 850,000 euros from Spanish outfit DKV Joventut would be too good to turn down. However, Mensah-Bonsu’s sister, Benny Bonsu told Basketball 24/7 “his ambition remains to return to the NBA”.
The former Dallas forward recorded 13 and 11 points in his previous two summer league outings and will have done his NBA chances no harm with his efficient shooting.
- Mensah-Bonsu is not the only player attracting interest from Europe. With a struggling dollar and less tax, Europe is becoming more attractive to players and Yahoo Sports reported Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Childress is “seriously considering” a three-year $20m offer to play in Greece. Juan Carlos Navarro, Carlos Delfino and American high school star Brandon Jennings have all signed lucrative offers in the last month and according to ESPN former Net Bostjan Nachbar has followed suit.
- The dot com has also reported that former Warrior Matt Barnes has been picked up by the Phoenix Suns on a one-year $1.2m veteran’s minimum. The forward offers them enthusiasm and three point shooting and will be a good fit in the Suns system.
