There are only a few weeks to go before the NBA regular season gets underway and we continue our countdown of reasons to look forward to the new season by highlighting two improved teams and an entertaining skit battle.

Reason no. 11: Houston’s Big Three

This summer Ron Artest joined Houston’s under-achievers, giving them a real chance of making it out of the first round in summer ’09.

The trio of Artest, Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming give the Rockets as strong a threesome as there is in the league. Artest offers them a defence and toughness they have been missing.

The Rockets roster also includes battling Shane Battier, the skilful Rafer Alston, the experienced Brent Barry and the improving Luis Scola meaning they are not just the big three; which is just as well given Yao and TMac’s injury records and RonRon’s track record for a little bit of crazy.

Despite playing a fairly slow offense, they will be very interesting to watch and I can’t wait to see how these three play together.

Reason no. 10: Skit battle – Bosh vs. BDiddy

Chris Bosh and Baron Davis will this year battle each other to see who can put together the funniest skit. Both have put together funny videos on YouTube in the past but now there is a competition the standard may get even better.

Bosh has to be the favourite after appearing on the Jay Leno Show, putting forward his case to be an All Star and preparing to interviewing himself.

While Baron has entertained in the past by revealing he is Steve Nash’s step brother and he has shown off his roller skating skills.

Reason no. 9: Brand new Sixers

The real shock of the summer was Elton Brand’s departure from the LA Clippers to join the Philadelphia 76ers, just days after his buddy, the aforementioned BDiddy, had signed with the Clips.

Moving East, Brand automatically gives himself and his team a chance of making it deep into the playoffs and his presence gives Phili what they need – a dependable inside scorer(20.3PPG career) and rebounder(10.2RPG career).

Brand’s new teammates scared the Detroit Pistons in the playoffs and with the former All Star on board could go deeper this year.

Andre Miller gives them a great pure point guard and fellow Andre, Igoudala, has come on so much as a player since the other AI left town. Factor in the rebounding Reggie Evans, the blocking Samuel Dalembert and exciting youngsters Louis Williams and Thaddeus Young and you have a dangerous team.
