Poll: Ridiculously Big

OK, before we get started, click on this link. Do it. Do it now. That clip is just one of the many reasons why King James needs to be in the 2010 Slam Dunk Contest in Dallas next month. Needs to be.
LeBron’s still undecided on whether to participate in the event despite indicating he would last year. That was when he said the contest had become “watered down” and relied too heavily on props and gimmicks.
Well, it looks like this year will prove no exception. The NBA’s latest big idea, the “Dunk-In,” will see Raptor’s rookie DeMar DeRozan and Clipper Eric Gordon (um, really?) go head to head during halftime of the Rookie Challenge. The winner, to be determined by fan’s text votes, will go on to compete in the main event. Who comes up with this stuff?Contrived nonsense is not what the contest needs. The infamous “Dunk Wheel” of 2002 proved that. What it needs is star power, and that’s where LeBron comes in. Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade and Kevin Durant have already turned their backs on this year’s competition but it only needs one superstar, the biggest superstar, to carry it.
Having arguably the best player in the world and hands down the most athletic guy in the league take part would generate a buzz unseen since 2000, when a young Vince Carter put himself forward. And we haven't seen such a household name in the contest since Jordan participated in the late 80s.
C'mon Lebron, the Slam Dunk Contest needs this, All-Star needs it, the NBA needs it and most importantly the fans need it. Just remember, both Jordan and Kobe, two of the guys you're battling for G.O.A.T status, have won the dunk crown.
Admit it King James, you need it too.
